What is trigonometry? Trigonometry is a glorified version of geometry. It is a study of angles that form any type of triangle, not just a right triangle. The word trigonometry actually means ‘triangle measuring’ in Greek.
In this course we will: Understand the differences in different families of functions and how horizontal and vertical shifts affect their definition and graph. Be spending a significant amount of time defining and working with the three primary functions of sine, cosine, and tangent, as well as with their reciprocal and inverse functions. Develop knowledge and tools that are essential to be successful in Calculus and higher level courses.
Assignments Homework assignments are worth 20 points each. They must be submitted by the end of the hour on the due date. Tests will be given at the end of each unit. They are usually worth around 100 points. A final will be given at the end of the semester and will be worth 20% of your final grade.
Grading Scale A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% D 60-69%
Ideas to help you be successful -Read ahead, if you’ve seen the information at least once before class, you are more likely to understand it the second time. -Don’t procrastinate. Easier said than done but the sooner you can at least start working on homework or reviewing, the easier it is going to be for you. -Get adequate sleep and eat a breakfast. -Have plenty of pencils and eraser available. You will make mistakes in this class and that is ok, as long as we learn from them. Messy assignments will not be accepted. -Have a notebook or three-ring binder that is used for this class only. -Own a graphing calculator (TI-83 or higher version) |
