“The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” Jean Baptiste Moličre
In this course we will:
Develop Logical Thinking Mathematics is about solving problems in a systematic and logical process. By recognizing patterns and repeated processes, you are able to formulate solutions to numerous problems. Algebra will help you think in abstract and will train your brain to look for those patterns and apply mathematical principles to find solutions.
Learn to Communication Mathematics Effectively Mathematics is a unique language that presents challenges when vocabulary is not fully understood. A portion of this course will be devoted to helping you learn how to read mathematics texts and understand what you have read.
Become a Better Student High school prepares you to further your education after these four years, and mathematics is the tool that I use to help you become a better student. By learning the importance of paying attention in class, taking notes, turning in your homework and studying effectively for tests, you will have a greater opportunity for success.
What you’ll need in your tool box:
Three-ring binder (no smaller than 1 ˝”) Loose-leaf paper (fringes are not acceptable on any assignment) 4 tab dividers (Class notes, homework/worksheets, tests/quizzes, and paper) Pencils, erasers, and a red-ink pen for grading. I recommend a scientific calculator for this course, it does not need to be a fancy one, just a basic calculator with the trigonometric functions on it (sin, cos, tan). We will utilize it later in this school year and will be used in Geometry as well. Determination Positive Attitude Discipline Classroom Expectations Ask questions. Be prepared for class when the bell rings. Respect yourself, fellow classmates, and the teacher. Believe that you can do it.
