Discipline & Homework |
|
Discipline: To help teach social skills, we have been using the Girls and Boys Town life skills model. Our goal is to educate students not only on reading, writing, math, science, social studies and technology, but also on how to follow instructions, accept ‘no’ for an answer, greet others, disagree appropriately and make an apology (among many other things). We also use a dot chart in our room that we send home for parents to see their child’s behavior. A dot is a warning, a line is five minutes of missed recess, another line is the whole recess. It increases to going to the principal, then visiting with parents. The chart will go home at the end of 25 days. |

Homework: I try not to send a lot of homework home in second grade. We will have reading homework on Monday through Thursday evenings. This really helps build their reading foundation! Students will be rereading OR reading-on in their reading group books we have used during our reading time. I will send a note home each evening in their group book letting you know which page they are to read to. It should only take 10-15 minutes. We will also have spelling homework the night before our spelling test. If your child has difficulty completing work during the school day and recess time has already been used as work time, the work will then need to become homework. Thank you for all your help in making sure it gets completed and returned!
