Math:

Math is taught a little differently today than it was in the past. We use a lot of hands-on methods. The math series we use cycles, so your child will be doing skills repeatedly throughout the year. It’s a wonderful way to make sure children truly understand the concepts!

Grades will be taken on tests. The math work we do in class is practice to learn the skills.

Our main focus in second grade is math and reading. That means we spend most of our day working on those subjects.

Skills to Work On:

Telling time to 5 minutes

Addition and Subtraction facts to 20

Place Value (hundreds, tens, ones)

Counting Money (dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies)

Comparison Symbols (greater than, less than, and equal to)

Addition with Regrouping

Subtraction with Regrouping

Basic Fractions

Graphs and Tables

General Problem Solving
