Tips for Helping Children Read
Good Readers will:
Think what would make sense.
Look at the pictures.
Look at the first letters. Get your mouth ready for that sound.
Check it. Does it look right and sound right?
Back up and reread.
Skip the word and go on to the end. Then come back and try again.
Look for chunks in the words.
Think about the meaning of the story.
Say the sounds and blend them back.
Look for suffixes.
Look for compound words.
