The Kansas State Assessments are given at the third grade level and continue to be given through the eighth grade year. They are also given during the sophomore or junior year, depending on the subject. Math and reading are assessed yearly at each of these grade levels. Science is assessed yearly in 4th grade, 7th grade, and in high school. Sophomores take the reading assessment each year. They also take the life science assessment each year. Juniors take the math assessment each year. Every other year, fifth grade, eighth grade, and juniors take the Kansas writing assessment. The social studies tests are given every other year in grades six, eight, and eleventh. Once a student has taken an assessment, the scores are reported back to the school. Scores are labeled in five different categories: EX = Exemplary ES = Exceeds Standard MS = Meets Standard AS = Approaches Standard AW = Academic Warning
The goal is for all USD 398 students to score in the top three categories (EX, ES, MS). |
