Classroom Procedures:
We will have many procedures for this class.  I am under the belief that for a student to reach his/her potential they need to understand what is being asked and required of them at all times.  We will have procedures for a variety of items in this class.  Here are a few examples:

  1. What to do when the bell rings
  2. How to conduct ourselves in the locker room
  3. What to do when the drill bell rings
  4. What to do when you have been absent
  5. How to begin class each day
  6. How to travel from gym to weight room
  7. How to spot the different lifts
  8. How to move from station to station
  9. Where to go after student has showered

Along with the many procedures in class, we will also be using the Boys Town Life Skills in class.  They are located on page 13, 14, and 15 of the student handbook.

Grading Policy:
Students will be graded on a grading scale of:
            A                     100 – 90
            B                     89 – 80
            C                     79 – 70
            D                     69 – 60
            F                      59 – 00
Students will earn class points from three different areas each day:  dressing out for class, participating in class, and respect and responsibility.  Each area will be worth one point per day equaling a total of three points per day.  Student’s grade will be based on the total number of points for the class divided by the number of points earned by the student for each nine week period.  Ex.  100 pts. / 90 = 90% = A-

Uniforms:
Students will be expected to participate on a daily basis in proper attire (school issued uniform).  Students may not alter the uniform.  Students will not be allowed to participate in class unless they are wearing the school issued uniform or a loaner issued by the instructor.  In the event the student does not have clothing they will be given a physical education uniform for that class period.  A student may use a loaner uniform three times during the semester without being issued a point deduction.

Any equipment damaged by a student as a result of obvious abuse will result in a replacement cost being assessed to that student.

ATTENDANCE, TARDIES AND PARTICIPATION AND MAKEUPS

Timely attendance is expected.  Everyone needs to be in the locker room when the tardy bell rings and in class for attendance five minutes after the tardy bell.  Two tardies equal one absence in our classroom grading policy.

Students will have the opportunity to make up three no suits throughout the semester.  They will have a designated time that they can come in and make up the no-suit.

If the student is injured a note is required from the parent or doctor explaining what the student is to do during the period.  Students are expected to dress in proper gym attire and participate within the limits of their injuries.

LOCKS, LOCKER ROOMS AND THEFT

Students are responsible for the security of their own gym locker.  Anything of value (wallets, jewelry, money, etc.) should not be brought down to the locker rooms.  It will be the responsibility of the students to lock and secure his/her gym locker.  Unsecured lockers usually produce theft.  The combination is not to be shared with other students, not even your very best friend.  Each student is issued his/her locker.  (Depending on numbers students might have to share a locker.)  The Physical Education department and USD 398 are not responsible for lost or stolen items.  We feel the students should accept responsibility of keeping his/her locker locked at all times.  Combination locks will be issued to each student free of charge.

Make-Up  for Absences:
For each class period missed, students will be allowed one day plus the class period they were absent.

Tardies:
If a student is late to school, he/she must report to the office.  Tardy is Tardy.  There are no excused or unexcused when you come to school late.  Students are allowed two tardies in a 9 – week period.  The office will administer all tardies.
            3 -  5 tardies in a 9 – week period – 30 minute detention
            6 – 8 tardies in a 9 week period – 1 hour detention
9 and succeeding tardies in a 9 – week period – ISS plus parent conference
