Family and Consumer Sciences

Food Science—basic chemistry knowledge is taught using food as a means of application for better understanding

Resource Management—a senior required class that allows students to learn many of the skills they will need as they begin life on their own—checkbook, taxes, utility bills, food, clothing, housing, transportation needs, etc.

Nutrition and Meal Planning—Where do the foods come from that we eat today? Are there any foods that we eat in the United States that originated here? How do people in other countries fulfill the Food Guide Pyramid? Students research an assigned country and plan labs to try foods native to that country.

Nutrition and Wellness—a freshman required class to teach students how their habits affect their health now and in the future

FACS Classes Spring 2009

EXPO FACS—This is the introductory course to the FACS program. This class is designed to give students an overview of FCCLA and all the components of FACS.

Exploratory FACS - This is a freshmen FACS class further exploring the vast areas within the field of family and consumer sciences. Self-esteem, personal hygiene, clothing, and nutrition and wellness are areas we will explore within this class.
