Dear Parents:

It is hard to believe the end of the school year is almost here. It has gone by quickly, and your child has learned so much this year. To help him/her remember some of the skills he/she has learned, I am sending home this packet of games/activities to help you review with your child. Some of the skills listed below have games/cards to go with them; others are not included but can easily be done without any materials. I have tried to include games/activities/cards that your child needs to review.

Skills that can be reviewed:
Your child’s full name, address, phone number, birthday. He/she should be able to write his/her first and last name.
Counting to 100. Kindergarteners should to able to count to 20 by the end of the year. However, most should be able to count to 100.
Number recognition to 20.
Recognition of the basic shapes: circle, triangle, rectangle, square, ellipse.
Identification of a penny and a dime and their values.
Skip counting by 10s, 2s, and 5s.
Telling time to the hour.
Writing numbers to 20 (in and out of order).
Review the names of upper and lower case letters and their sounds. Some children have alphabet cards for your use. Your child should be able to say the letters and their sounds quickly and accurately. When given a sound your child should be able to write the letter for that sound. He/she should be able to make the letter correctly. A page is included to help your child make each letter correctly. (If your child’s packet does not have these cards, he/she can say the letters/sounds quickly.)
Review of short vowel sounds. The activity Pick a Pocket will help your child review hearing the vowel sounds in words. I have included Vowel Town (vowel houses on a hill) and Cross the Wild River to help your child remember the short vowel sounds. In case you are not familiar with the sounds, the short e sound is the sound you hear in elf, i and in, a as in at, u as in up and o as in on
Sounding out simple words with short sounds. Roll, Say, and Keep is a game that will review this skill. He/she should also be able to spell many of these words.
Sight words that the children have learned—There is also a game included for this.
Rhyming words
Stories that your child should be able to read.
Hopefully, you have been reading to your child and will be continuing to do this during the summer.
These are some web sties that can be useful for reviewing skills:
starfall.com
Primarygames.com
Literactive.com—this is a free website but you may have to register to get onto the sight.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Thiessen
